Research Assistant -- Migration/Socioeconomics/Political Development

The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, a global network of policy research centers in Russia, China, Europe, the Middle East, India, and the United States, is seeking a full-time Research Assistant to work in its Beirut office for one or possibly more years starting in the autumn of 2017.

Responsibilities will include assisting CMEC's director Dr. Maha Yahya with her research on migration, socioeconomics, and political development issues in general, including socioeconomic challenges and their relevance to unfolding political developments. The research assistant will survey relevant literature, analyze articles and books, gather relevant data, review and edit papers, and support in the organization of conferences and meetings related to ongoing work.

The position requires a master's degree in development studies, economics, international affairs, political science, or a related field; research experience on Middle East political development or socio-economic policies, youth issues, and/or development; knowledge of Middle East current affairs; native or near native English and Arabic; and excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.

The ideal candidate will have strong inter-disciplinary research skills, the ability to leverage and synthesize multiple primary and secondary research sources, the ability to write reports and briefings on a variety of issues, the ability to conduct and/or supervise field research, the ability to work independently and adapt to changing job requirements, and the ability to manage project execution and research interns. Familiarity with economic research methods and statistical analysis is a plus.
