Research Assistant Cross Border Conflicts/Migration/Socioeconomics/Political Development

The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, a global network of policy research centers in Russia, China, Europe, the Middle East, India, and the United States, is seeking a full-time Research Assistant to work in its Beirut office for one-year renewable position.

Responsibilities will include assisting CMEC's director Dr. Maha Yahya with her research on migration, socioeconomics, cross border conflicts, contentious politics and political development issues in general. The research assistant will survey relevant literature, analyze articles and books, gather relevant data, review and edit papers, and support in the organization of conferences and meetings related to ongoing work.

The position requires a master's degree in development studies, economics, international affairs, political science, or a related field; research experience in Middle East political development or socioeconomic policies, youth issues, and/or development; inter-disciplinary research skills and the ability to leverage and synthesize multiple primary and secondary research sources; ability to write reports and briefings on various issues; familiarity with economic research methods and statistical analysis in a plus; ability to conduct and/or supervise field research; excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office (particularly Excel).

Applicants must be able to work independently and adapt to changing requirements on the job. Candidates should have good organizational skills including the ability to coordinate with other scholars as well as the planning and execution of public and private events; and the ability to coordinate project execution and manage research interns. Knowledge of Middle East current affairs is required; Applicant must be fluent in both English and Arabic.
